My family went on a camping trip to the prefecture of Nagano, located about 400 kilometers (250 miles) away from Kyoto last week. And let me tell you, it was an awesome experience. We got to feel the nice cool breeze (in summer!), climb mountains, enjoy scrumptious foods, relax, and have fun with some friends, who camped with us as well.

Nagano was an awesome place. So let me tell you some highlights of the trip.

Temperature

In case you didn’t know, Kyoto is a HOT place. And very, VERY humid. It feels like entering a hot spring when you go outside on a particularly hot day. Many people overheat from the extreme temperatures, and that’s why I personally like to stay home in the middle of summer in Kyoto.

But not with Nagano. The prefecture is surrounded by mountains, and cool breezes swish across the terrain. A perfect place to reside in the summer. Our campsite was high in the mountains, so that helped as well.

Food

This was a topic I talked about in my post about Hokkaido last year. That is probably because there are a ton of places with amazing food in Japan. Here are some of the foods that Nagano is famous for:

Wasabi. A spicy but refreshing plant, it can be grounded into a paste, which is commonly used in sushi, and some noodles.

Japanese Peaches. Now, if you were thinking the normal red peaches with orange insides, you’re wrong. These peaches are white, soft pink, juicy on the inside, soft juices pouring into your mouth as you sink your teeth into the awesomeness. I love them, and if you get a chance, you should definitely give them a try.

Oyaki. This is a delicious kind of dumpling, in which you can put different things inside like chicken, apples, or soybean paste. Yummy!

Scenery

The views in Nagano are beyond amazing, and you can’t change my mind! The rolling mountains, the dreamy skies, the rippling sapphire lakes are just amazing. Here are some pictures for proof 😀

So, as you can tell, we had an amazing time up in Nagano, escaping from the sweaty weather in Kyoto. I am so blessed to have been able to go on that trip. If you get the chance, I recommend you visit this amazing place and experience the wonder of God’s creation.
